Microchipping

June is National Pet Microchipping Month!

What is Microchipping?

  • Microchipping is the implantation of a small device, called a microchip, under your cat’s skin with a needle, usually between the shoulder blades.

What is a Microchip?

  • A microchip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, that has a unique number encoded inside.  Once the microchip is implanted, the owner is given the microchip number to go online to register the number in a database with their contact information and information about the cat.  If and when the microchip is scanned and the number is read on the scanner, it can be entered into the database and the owner can then be notified that their cat has been found.
